The Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) has appointed Senator Robin Padilla as the party’s interim executive vice president.
Padilla replaced Karlo Nograles who resigned from the party and as executive vice president when he became chairman of the Civil Service Commission.
In a statement, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the PDP-Laban said it had nominated and appointed Padilla as executive vice-president of the party “until the next election of national officers in a National Assembly held for that purpose”. .
The political party also said it chose Padilla because he “shares the same vision of PDP-Laban and has the ability to duly represent the party.”
As interim executive vice president, Padilla will be part of the NEC and may resume the duties of party chairman in the event of prolonged absence, permanent incapacity, suspension, resignation or expulsion.
At the party’s National Council meeting in Parañaque last Monday, former Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi announced that he was stepping down as party president to “give way to party consolidation.”
At the same meeting, former President Rodrigo Duterte, party chairman, urged his party members to “prepare for the next elections” in 2025 and continue the campaign against corruption and illegal drugs.
Padilla may also “perform such other duties and functions as may be entrusted to him by the National Council.
