A political party will protest in Chennai, India on November 1. Likely strengthening of security; clashes, localized transport disruptions possible.

The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) political party is planning to demonstrate in Chennai, Tamil Nadu state, on November 1 to condemn, among other things, the government’s imposition of the Hindi language. Although organizers have yet to reveal specific details about the location and timing, activists will likely gather near the division’s headquarters, in a prominent public space or government building, or along a main artery. The gathering could be well attended.

Security personnel usually monitor these protests and may move in to break up the gathering if they are particularly disruptive. Minor clashes between demonstrators and police, as well as between demonstrators and opposition political activists, cannot be ruled out. Militants may march along and/or block roads, causing localized transport disruptions.

Avoid any demonstration related to VCK as a standard security measure. Monitor trusted local media for updates on rallies as organizers may not announce them in advance. Allow extra travel time near gatherings. Heed all official safety and transport notices.
