SUNGAI PETANI: Six men were arrested for helping to investigate a fight between two groups of political party supporters at Dataran Zero here early Saturday morning (19 November).
Kedah Police Chief Datuk Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad said the men, aged between 19 and 26, were arrested in the Jalan Lagenda Height area here at 2pm yesterday.
“At 2:15 a.m. on November 19, police received reports of a fight between two groups of political party supporters in Dataran Zero Sungai Petani. A police team was mobilized to the area and controlled the situation. .
“Investigations so far revealed that the fight was caused by the simultaneous presence of two groups of supporters from different political parties and that there was an incident in which a party flag touched the body of the ‘one of the supporters,’ he said in a statement.
Police have also identified two other people believed to be involved in the incident and are locating them.
Those arrested were remanded in custody for two days from today, he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Article 147 of the Penal Code. and section 9(1) of the Electoral Offenses Act 1954.
Wan Hassan reminded the public not to speculate about the incident and cause public unrest, and to leave any further action to the police. – Bernama
