SUNGAI PETANI: Six men have been arrested for helping to investigate a fight between two groups of political party supporters at Dataran Zero here early Saturday morning.
Kedah Police Chief Datuk Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad said the men, aged between 19 and 26, were arrested in the Jalan Lagenda Height area here at 2pm yesterday.
“On November 19, at 2:15 a.m., police received reports of a fight between two groups of political party supporters at Dataran Zero Sungai Petani. A team of police mobilized on the spot and controlled the situation.
“Investigations so far have revealed that the fight was caused by the simultaneous presence of two groups of supporters from different political parties and that there was an incident in which a party flag touched the body of the ‘one of the supporters,’ he said in a statement today.
Police have also identified two other people believed to be involved in the incident and are locating them.
Those arrested were remanded in custody for two days from today, he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Article 147 of the Penal Code. and section 9(1) of the Electoral Offenses Act 1954.
Wan Hassan said the public was reminded not to speculate about the incident and cause public disorder, and to leave any further action to the police.– Bernama
