The Fiji Times » End of political party registrations

Political party registrations will cease immediately after the writ is issued today, Electoral Commission Chairman Mukesh Nand said. He said that after the writ is issued, nominations of candidates would be open.

“The last day to file a candidate’s nomination is 12 p.m. on November 14, 2022,” Mr Nand said.

“Anyone who wishes to withdraw their candidacy can do so by noon the next day.

“The writ for the 2022 General Election will be released tomorrow (today), October 31, 2022, which means that Fijians need to know very important requirements.

“Any Fijian who turns 18 before the writ is issued can still register and voter registration will cease after the writ is issued at the time prescribed by the writ.

“Following the issuance of the writ, the FEO (Fiji Electoral Office) will publish a calendar of important dates that all Fijians should be aware of.

“On the day the writ is issued for the 2022 general election, OTF will complete voter registration and OTF is also on track in terms of staffing and resources.”

Meanwhile, Mr Nand said mail-in ballot applications are now open.

Those interested in applying for the postal vote have until November 23 at 5 p.m. to submit their application. This comes as the date for the 2022 general election was announced yesterday by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

“With the announcement of the 2022 general election, I would like to inform all voters that applications for postal ballots are now open,” Mr Nand said.

“Every registered Fijian voter who is overseas will be required to apply for an absentee ballot and absentee ballot application forms can be accessed at services.feo.org.fj.”

FEO will have 855 polling stations on election day, with 613 pre-voting stations across the country.

At least 7,541 FEO personnel will operate these stations.

Mr Nand said polling stations would open from 7:30 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. after the last voter in the queue had cast their ballots.

The 2022 general election will be held on December 14.
